2016年2月28日、千葉市泉自然公園の野鳥ボランティアガイドに参加した。 泉自然公園には区切られた複数（5？）の池があり、各種のカモがいた。この池にはオシドリがいるとインターネットサイトに載っていたので期待していた。野生のオシドリを見たことはなかったからだ。一番大きい池に行くと確かにオシドリがいた。マガモなどのように人間の近くにも来るのかと思っていたが、野生のオシドリは水辺の木陰を好み、開けた水面にはあまり出ないと言う。

On February 28, 2016, I participated in the voluntarily birding tour held at Izumi Natural Park in Chiba. There are some (5?) separated ponds in Izumi Natural Park and we could see some ducks there. Since the internet site says that Mandarin ducks live in this pond, I expected to see them here. It is because I have not seen wild Mandarin ducks before. There were surely the Mandarin ducks when we went to the biggest pond. I was thinking whether the duck came close to human like Mallards, but it is said that the wild Mandarin ducks like shade of waterside trees and they do not appear on the open space of water too much.
一羽のオシドリが岸の木陰から移動して翼を広げて飛び立った。翼を広げると美しい羽毛が隠れてしまう。
A Mandarin duck moved from the shade of the bank and opened the wings then flew away. The beautiful feathers were hidden when the wings were open.
オシドリが飛んだ姿を追ってみた。なるほど、空を飛んでいるオシドリは他のカモと区別しにくい。そのため誤って撃たれることも多いと言う。
I chased the flying Mandarin duck. It is hard to distinguish the Mandarin duck flying in the sky from other ducks indeed. Therefore, it is said that the flying Mandarin duck may be shot by mistake.
