There are many teal in the pond in the park in winter. It is a migratory bird that comes here to spend the winter, as it is widely distributed in the boreal to subarctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere. The male’s head is dark brown with a dark green band running from around the eyes to the back of the neck, giving it a very distinctive appearance. The female’s head is brown, and her body is covered with pale brown feathers on a blackish-brown background, and is plain compared to the male. It looks so similar to the female pintail duck that it is difficult to tell them apart, but it is smaller. They appear to be wild and are very wary of humans, and will fly away if you approach them. When people come to feed, mallards and pintails will come, but teals will not. The number has decreased since April. When I took a photo of the teal floating on the surface of the lake near islet, I also saw a red-eared terrapinr, an invasive species, drying its shell on islet. On another day, there were 3 of them, and they appeared to be breeding quite a lot.The owners must have released the green turtle that they kept as a pet into this pond because it had grown too big to handle. This is an invasive species that cannot be welcomed.
