葛西臨海公園にサンカノゴイがしばらく滞留, Rare stay of Eurasian bittern at Kasai Rinkai Park.
2017年12月29日、葛西臨海公園に初めて行ってみた。この公園はバードウオッチング場所としても知られている。 8時頃着いて公園内を歩き回った。12時も過ぎたので帰ろうかと思って再度上の池に行ってみると望遠レンズを何かに向けている方々が10人位いた。 その方向を見たが何も見えない。すると一人の方が親切に教えてくれた。「サンカノゴイです。あそこの枯れ木の下の葦の所ですよ。」 でも全然わからない。「このカメラを覗いてみて。」その方のカメラのファインダーを覗くと葦に溶け込んだような大きい鳥が ゆっくり動いているのに気付いた。「ああっ！分かりました、保護色で分からないんですね。」それから自分のカメラで写真を撮った。
On December 29, 2017, I went to Kasai Rinkai Park for the first time. This park is also known as a bird watching place. I arrived around 8:00 and walked around the park. Since it passed 12 o’clock, I thought of leaving and went again to the upper pond in the park. There were about 10 persons who were directing their telephoto lens to something. I saw its direction, but I could not see anything. Then on person told me kindly. “It’s a Eurasian bittern, at the place of reed under that dead tree.” But, still I could not see at all. “Look into my camera.” I looked into the viewfinder of his camera, and then I noticed that a big birds was slowly moving as if it was melting into the reed. “Oh, I see, the color was too protective to notice.” Then I started to take pictures with my camera.
サンカノゴイの動作はまるでスローモーションのようだ。ゆっくり首を伸ばして水面に嘴を突っ込んだ。 何かを捕まえたのかどうか確認できなかった。
The behavior of the Eurasian bittern was like slow motion. It stretched the neck slowly and thrust its beak into the surface of the water. I could not confirm whether it caught something.
サンカノゴイが今度は首を上に伸ばして静止した。この姿勢は枯れた葦に似せる擬態だそうだ。鳥は警戒したのかもしれない。この鳥は日本では 生息数が少なく絶滅危惧種だという。しかも、警戒心が強く観察されにくいそうなので、今回初めて訪問した公園で見られたのは幸運だった。
The Eurasian bittern stretched its neck upward this time. This posture seems to be a mimicry that resembles dead reeds. The bird may have been alert. They say that this bird is an endangered species with few inhabitants in Japan. Moreover, it is usually difficult to observe by its strong alertness, so it was lucky to me to see the bird at this first visit here.
約20分後、サンカノゴイはゆっくり左に移動した。歩く動作もまるでスローモーションだ。
About 20 minutes later, the Eurasian bittern slowly moved to the left. The walking is like slow motion, too.
写真撮影ももう終わろうか、と思っていたら急にサンカノゴイが飛んだ。慌ててレンズを向けてシャッターを切った。 背景が水面だったので２枚目からかろうじて焦点が合った。サンカノゴイは広い葦原の中に着地して見えなくなった。 集ったカメラマンはこれで撮影会を終わったという雰囲気で帰途についた。ある一人の独り言「正月近くにここでトラツグミと サンカノゴイを撮影できたから今年はいい年だった。」
The Eurasian bittern flew suddenly when I was thinking of the end of the taking picture. I directed the camera and shot hastily. Since the background was the surface of the water, the shot was barely in focus from the second one. The Eurasian bittern landed in a wide reed field and disappeared. We all were then in an atmosphere that the party was over. A soliloquy of one person: “ This year was good as I was able to shoot a Scaly thrush and the Eurasian bittern here near New Year.”
