モズのハヤニエの現場を目撃した！ I witnessed the scene of a shrike to impale its prey upon a thorn!
2017年1月1日、こんぶくろ池自然博物公園の近くを歩いていると、やや遠い前方道路横の柵にモズが止まっているので気づいた。モズは雑草の上に 飛び降りて何か獲物を捕まえたようだ。モズが私を警戒しないように遠くから写真を撮ったのではっきりしないが獲物はバッタのようだ。
モズは柵から近くのニセアカシアの木に移動した。そして、獲物を木のとげに刺した。モズのはやにえ行動だ！モズはとげに刺した獲物の羽をむしり取っている。
I noticed that a shrike perched on a fence of the road side a little far in front of me when I was walking near Konbukuro-Pond Natural History Park on January 1, 2017. The shrike jumped off on a grassy ground and seemed to catch some game.
The game is like a grasshopper though it is not clear because I took the photo from far away so that the shrike was not cautious of me. The shrike moved to a locust tree near the fence and then it impaled the prey on a thorn. This is the typical habit of impaling prey on thorn of the shrike! The shrike pulls off the wing of the game which was impaled on the thorn.
モズは最後に虫の体を食べた。もうとげには何も残っていない。この一連の写真はモズのはやにえを説明する次の説を実証する: モズは体が 小さいために、獲物をとげなどに突き刺すことにより固定して口に入る大きさに引き裂いて食べる。もしこの時、私が近寄っていたらモズは飛び去り、 獲物はとげにささったまま残されただろう。
The shrike ate the body of the insect last. Nothing was left to the thorn anymore. These a series of photos are evidence of the next opinion explaining the habit of the shrike: The bull-headed shrike is known to impale some of its preys upon a sharp point ? usually thorns ? so the food can be ripped into bite-sized pieces more easily. If I would have approached then, the shrike would flow away, and the game would be left upon the thorn.
