木々の茂る小道横で少し砂に埋まったタマムシを見つけた。タマムシの成虫寿命は1ヶ月に満たないので、死んで間もないタマムシが 台風10号の影響によるスコールのような雨でここに流されてきたらしい。
I found a jewel beetle buried in the sand a little on the path beside the forest on Aug. 15, 2019. The adult life of the beetle is less than a month, so it seems that the beetle has been washed away in a squall-like rain due to the influence of typhoon No. 10.

This beetle is one of the most beautiful insects in Japan. When I was a child, I wanted to see the real jewel beetle after looking at it in a pictorial book, but I had never seen it in a north part of Japan where I grew up. The elytra have glossy iridescent colors which are caused by structural coloration, so it will not fade even after death. The elytra have been traditionally used in beetlewing jewellery and decoration in Japan.
