ヤマガラの群れの中に通称ベンケイヤマガラがいた, Among the flock of Varied tits, there was a bird commonly known as the Benkei tit.
2024年1月19日、今年初めてのバードウォッチング、水元公園に出かけた。インターネットのブログにベンケイヤマガラなど、めずらしい野鳥がいると書かれていたからだ。やや遅くなったが電車に乗り、八潮駅まで行った。そこから約35分あるいて水元公園の入り口に着いた。野鳥の集まる林までにはさらに25分位歩かなければならない。よく野鳥が見られる林に行くと数人のバーダーが望遠レンズを向けている光景にであった。ベンケイヤマガラやヤマガラが出ていた。シジュウカラやルリビタキもいたので写真を撮った。
On January 19, 2024, I went bird watching for the first time this year to Mizumoto Park. That’s because an internet blog said there were rare wild birds such as the Benkei Tit. Although it was a little late, I got on the train and went to Yashio Station. After about 35 minutes, I arrived at the entrance of Mizumoto Park. I had to walk another 25 minutes to reach the forest where wild birds gather. When I went to a forest where I often saw wild birds, I saw several birders pointing their telephoto lenses at birds. The Benkei Tit and the Varied tit were present. There were also Japanese tit and Red-flanked bluetail, so I took photos of them.
ベンケイヤマガラはヤマガラの群れと一緒に行動しているようだ。今度はヤマガラが現れた。両者の姿は似ている。ヤマガラの場合は、頭部と喉の部分が黒く、額から頬、後頭部にかけて白っぽい。翼は青みがかった灰色に見える。ベンケイヤマガラの場合は、頭部は薄い黒だが、喉の部分は黒くない。翼は青みがかった灰色に見えるが、他の部分は茶色っぽい鉄さびのような色だ。
The Benkei Tit appears to be moving together with a flock of Varied tit. This time, Varied tits appeared. The appearance of both is similar. In the case of Varied tits, the head and throat are black, and the forehead, cheeks, and back of the head are whitish. The wings appear bluish-gray. In the case of the Benkei Tit, the head is pale black, but the throat is not black. The wings appear bluish-gray, but the rest of the body is a brownish rust-like color.
ベンケイヤマガラが正式名称なのか、ヤマガラとの遺伝子の違いが調べられているのかなど、不明だ。生物に広く見られる多型（polymorphism）なのだろうか？
It is unclear whether Benkei Tit is the official name, or whether the genetic differences between it and the Varied tit have been investigated. Is it a polymorphism that is widely seen in living things?
