アーツ・アンド・クラフツ運動について、かつて美術史で読んだことがあったので今回展示品を見てなるほどと思った。
I had read about the Arts and Crafts Movement in an art history book before, so I thought it made sense when I saw the exhibits.

ウィリアム・モリス, William Morris 1834 – 1896
アーツ・アンド・クラフツ運動の主導者。デザイナー、詩人、社会主義思想家、環境保護活動家など、多彩な顔を持つ。ジョン・ラスキンの思想に大きな影響を受け、中世のギルドを理想とする社会と手工芸の復興をめざした。1861年、バーン・ジョンズ、ロセッティらとモリス・マーシャル・フォークナー商会（のちのモリス商会）を設立。大量生産を批判し、実用性と美を兼ね備えた壁紙、テキスタイル、ステンドグラスなどを制作した。

Leader of the Arts and Crafts movement. He is a designer, poet, socialist thinker, and environmental activist. He was greatly influenced by the ideas of John Ruskin and aimed to revive society and handicrafts based on the ideals of medieval guilds. In 1861, he founded Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. (later Morris & Co.) with Verne Johns and Rossetti. He criticized mass production and created wallpaper, textiles, and stained glass that were both practical and beautiful.
アーツ・アンド・クラフツ運動はウィリアム・モリスが主導したデザイン運動だ。知れば知る程奥が深いので、何回かに分けて展示作品を紹介します。
The Arts and Crafts movement was a design movement led by William Morris. The more you know about it, the more profound it is, so I will introduce the exhibited works in several parts.
