花弁の裏側を見せるように置かれた大きな花の間から覗くるりはこべ。可憐で実に愛らしい。しかしデザインの主張をなすのは、渦を巻くように茎と葉を絡める大きな花である。ゆったりと大きく円を描く茎の動きは、柔らかさと同時に左右対称の整然とした美しさも加えている。自然のエネルギーを感じさせる有機的な形と、繰り返しや対称性といった文様の秩序立った美を融合したモリスのデザインの真骨頂と言える壁紙。

Pimpernel peeks out from between the large flowers that are placed to show the back side of the petals. Pretty and really adorable. However, the statement of the design is the large flower with a spiral arrangement of stems and leaves.The slow, circular movement of the stems adds both softness and symmetrical beauty. This wallpaper is the true essence of Morris’ design, combining organic shapes that evoke the energy of nature with the orderly beauty of patterns such as repetition and symmetry.
