こんぶくろ池自然博物公園でよく見かける小さいチョウ、ヤマトシジミ。幼虫の食草がカタバミとのこと、カタバミはたくさん生えているのでヤマトシジミが沢山発生する。オスの翅の表は金属光沢をもつ薄い青色できれいだ。英名のPale grass blueはよく特徴を表している。

A small butterfly, the Pale grass blue (Zizeeria maha), is often seen at Konbukuro-Pond Nature Museum Park. The larvae feed on Oxalis corniculata, and since Oxalis corniculata grows in abundance, there are many Pale grass blues. The upper part of the male’s wings is a beautiful pale blue with a metallic luster. The English name, Pale grass blue, well describes this characteristic.
