茂原市に引っ越して家の近くを時々散歩する。道路の側溝の中や家のブロック塀の根元などでヒメツルソバ（ポリゴナム）を見かける。柏市では見なかった。球状の小さい金平糖のような集合花がかわいいと思ったので取って家の庭に植えたら根付いた。ヒマラヤ原産の植物で、日本ではグラウンドカバーとして用いられているようだ。繁殖力が強いので要注意との記事もある。根の浅い植物なので管理は難しくないようだ。
I moved to Mobara City and occasionally take walks near my house. I see Polygonum capitatum in the gutters of roads and at the base of block walls. I didn’t see it in Kashiwa City. I thought the small, spherical, confetti-like clusters of flowers were cute, so I picked one and planted it in my garden, where it has taken root. It is a plant native to the Himalayas, and seems to be used as a ground cover in Japan. Some articles say it has a strong reproductive ability, so be careful. It is a shallow-rooted plant, so it seems easy to manage.
