Beginner’s Luck

４月にスイカの種をまいたら4株育った。スイカは暑い夏によく育ち大きい実を７月に4個収穫できた。

I planted watermelon seeds in April and four plants grew. The watermelons thrived in the hot summer, and I was able to harvest four large fruits in July.

もう終わりかと思ったが、葉が青々としているのでそのままにしていたらその後も花が咲いた。人工授粉したらまた実がどんどん大きくなった。9月に１個、10月に２個収穫できた。大きさはやや小さいが5kgあり、十分おいしかった。初心者にしては上出来でした。

I thought it was the end, but the leaves were still green, so I left them alone and the flowers continued to bloom. After artificial pollination, the fruits continued to grow. I was able to harvest one in September and two in October. They were a little small, but weighed 5kg and were very tasty. It was a good harvest for a beginner.
