Mating of a butterfly (Lampides boeticus)
こんぶくろ池自然博物公園に入ると、葉の上でウラナミシジミが休んでいた（2023年9月20日）。そこにオスがやってきてメスの横に並んだ。オスは尻尾をメスの方に向け交尾行動を始めた。交接するとオスは体勢を変えて2頭は尻尾をくっつけて頭部を外側に向けた直線状になった。これで交尾が成立したのだろう。
When I entered the Konbukuro Pond Nature Museum Park, I saw a small butterfly (Lampides boeticus) resting on a leaf (September 20, 2023). Then a male came and lined up next to the female. The male turned his tail towards the female and began mating behavior. After mating, the male changed the position and the two formed a straight line with their tails touching and heads facing outward. I guess mating has now been established.
そこにもう1頭のオスが飛んできた。このオスもメスと交尾しようとした。でも先のカップルは邪魔されても離れなかった。もう1頭のオスはしばらく邪魔をするような行動を続けたが、交尾できないと分かったようで飛び去った。最初の2頭はずっと交尾を続けた。来年はこのカップルの子どもを見かけるかもしれない。
Another male flew in there. This male also attempted to mate with the female. But the first couple didn’t leave even when they were disturbed. The other male acted like a nuisance for a while but then seemed to realize that it couldn’t mate and flew away. The first two continued mating. We might see this couple’s child next year.
