A pair of moorhens are raising chicks in a water reservoir.

On this day I saw three common moorhens, one in the water and two feeding on the ground.

As the weather gets warmer, a common moorhen is taking water silks that have increased in number in the shallows. The moorhen appears to be rushing towards the shore.

The moorhen approached the reedy shore, there were chicks, 4 black furballs, which I noticed for the first time in this photo, but I couldn’t see it with the naked eye. Last year I saw one chick (June 13, 2011), and then this year too, four chicks hatched.

I think the one I’ve seen here recently was a mother moorhen, and the chicks hatched within a few days. When the mother tries to leave, the chick is chirping, and it seems that she is busy picking up fresh water silks to give to the chicks.

On this day, there seem to be a lot of chicks, 6 or 7, on the shore of the reed field, which makes it difficult for natural predators to get close to them.

The parent moorhen is bringing many chicks, and the chicks, which look like black sesame dumplings, are growing strong.

There are two parents, and I can see five chicks, and they are all doing well.

The sesame dumplings have also grown a little larger and are feeding together with their parents.

It seems that the chicks sometimes receive food from their parents. There were 6 chicks on this day, so I guess that’s all of them.

The chicks, which looked like sesame dumplings, have grown up and covered their bodies with brown feathers. I wonder if all the baby moorhens with brownish feathers have grown up. The parents are in the usual place, so they’re probably nesting in the back here.

On this day, I saw a parent and chick on the opposite bank of the reed bed, and I could see six chicks. When I zoomed in, I noticed that the chicks had grown considerably, and the feathers on their backs had all turned brown.

About two months later, after becoming young and separated from their parents, seven birds gathered together on the reed bank, which is unusual, and their beaks are not yet red.

He is now an adult, his wings are fine, and he can fly well (July 24, 2012). Two birds were foraging together, and there were two others nearby (July 31, 2012).

I haven’t seen any chicks since August. I wonder if they moved away from their parents. On this day, I saw one parent. (August 17, 2012) I saw a grebe for the first time at the pond where moorhens breed. Moorhen: “Who are you?” (September 5, 2012)
