On January 5, 2026, I was able to take a photo of a Common Pochard and a Spot-billed Duck side by side on the water surface. You can see the difference in their physical characteristics. The Common Pochard’s body is submerged deeper in the water than the Spot-billed Duck’s, so its tail feathers are hidden underwater. The Spot-billed Duck’s tail feathers are visible above the water’s surface. Even though they live in the same pond, they eat different foods and have different foraging methods, so they can coexist without fighting.
