2016年5月19日、我孫子市にある手賀沼公園を散歩した。遊歩道に接するヨシ原から何羽かのオオヨシキリの大きい鳴き声が聞こえた。 ヨシ原を見回したがオオヨシキリの姿を見つけることはできなかった。 しばらくヨシ原を見ていると、突然1羽の小鳥が飛んで来て近くの木の枝に止まった。 オオヨシキリだ！木の葉が邪魔だったが写真を撮った。オオヨシキリはすぐ飛び去ってヨシ原に戻ったが、姿はヨシの藪で見えなくなった。
I heard big warbles of Great reed warbler in the reed bed adjacent to the promenade. I looked around the reed bed, but was not able to find the bird. A small bird flew and perched on the branch of the tree nearby when I was watching the reed bed for a while. Oh, the Great reed warbler! I took photos of it though leaves were obstructive. The bird flew away immediately and returned the reed bed, and then it was out of sight behind the thicket of reeds.
私は、ヨシ原を見渡せる土手に移動してオオヨシキリを探した。大きい鳴き声を聞き続けたが、全然姿を見つけられなかった。 ヨシ原をしばらく見ていると、1羽の小鳥が飛び出してヨシ原の中に立つ木の枝に止まるのを目撃した。 木の葉が茂るのでどこに止まったのか分からなかったが、しばらく探すと見つけることができた。
I moved to the embankment where I was able to look around the reed bed and looked for the Great reed warbler. I continued to hear the big warble of the bird but was unable to find the bird at all. I continued to watch the reed bed and then I witnessed a bird that flew out and perched on the branch of a tree in the reed bed. The bird was invisible by leaves of the tree but I was able to find it after looking for it for a while.
オオヨシキリは木の枝でもさえずり始めた。口を大きく開け、喉をふくらませて大きい音量でさえずる。藪でさえずるそのしぐさは ウグイスとよく似ている。
オオヨシキリとウグイスはムシクイ類（英語: Old world warblers）属し、その類はウグイス科（他の名称もある）とされていたが、 現在は多くの科に分割され、オオヨシキリはヨシキリ科、ウグイスはウグイス科に分類されている。

私は以前（2016年5月3日）、手賀沼公園のヨシ原の中に立つ木からウグイスのさえずりを聞いた。木の葉が茂るのでどこに止まっているのか 分からなかったが、しばらく探していると、ウグイスは見えるところに出てきてさえずった。でもすぐ別の場所に移動して見えなくなった。 藪でさえずるそのしぐさはオオヨシキリとよく似ている。現在、ウグイスとオオヨシキリは別種に分類されているが、単なる収斂進化以上に 体形や行動が似ていると思う。 オオヨシキリの体形は 新世界のタイランチョウに似ていると思ったが、これは虫を捕食するための 収斂進化の結果だろう。
I heard the warble of a Japanese bush warbler from the tree which was in the reed bed in Tega-Pond Park before (May 3, 2016). The bird was invisible by leaves of the tree but came out on the visible branch and warbled after looking for it for a while. But it moved to another place and was invisible immediately. The action to warble in the bush resembles the Great reed warbler closely. Japanese bush warbler and Great reed warbler are now classified in different families, but I think they resemble each other in shape and behavior more than simple convergent evolution. I thought that the shape of Great reed warbler resembles some kinds of Tyrant flycatcher of the New World, but this will be a result of the convergent evolution to prey on insects.
ヨシ原の中ではオオヨシキリの姿を見つけられなかったので、その場を離れて遊歩道を歩いて行くと、また大きいオオヨシキリのさえずりが聞こえた。 今度は枯れたヨシの先端でさえずるオオヨシキリを見た。ポスターなどでよくこの光景を見かけるが、この場面に会うことは予想以上に難しかった。
I left the place of reed bed and continued to walk the promenade because I was unable to find the Great reed warbler in the thicket of reeds, and then I heard again a big warble of the bird. I saw the warbler singing at the tip of the died reed this time. You see this scene with posters well, but it was unexpectedly difficult to encounter this scene.
さえずるオオヨシキリを正面から見ると大きく開けた赤い口が目立つ。

オオヨシキリは姿勢を変えてさえずり続けた。
The warbler changed posture and continued singing.
目前でこんなによくさえずってくれるなんて、期待以上だった。
