ホシホウジャクの吸蜜
こんぶくろ池自然博物公園にワタラセツリフネソウが群落自生する場所がある。花が咲くとホシホウジャクが吸蜜にやって来る。それを写真に撮るのが楽しい。ホシホウジャクは素早く花から花へ飛び回って吸蜜する。1つの花に1秒もとどまっていない。だから写真を撮るのが難しい。写真を見ると口吻は体と同じくらい長い。だからツリフネソウの花の奥まで届く。長い口吻を使って短時間にどうして蜜を体内に移動できるのか不思議だ。
There is a place in the Konbukuro Pond Nature Museum Park where a plant called Impatiens ohwadae in the genus Impatiens grows wild in this place. When the flowers bloom, a hawk moth comes to suck the nectar. It’s fun to take pictures of it. The hawk moth quickly flies from flower to flower to suck nectar. They don’t stay on a single flower for even a second. That’s why it’s difficult to take photos. If you look at the photo, the proboscis is as long as the body. That’s why it can reach deep into the flowers. It is a mystery how they are able to move nectar into their bodies in such a short time using their long proboscis.
