2025年5月24日、茂原公園を散歩した。以前、水が抜いてあった池には水が入っていた。改修工事が完了したためのようだ。
水鳥の姿はないのに、カメが沢山甲羅干しをしているのには驚いた。このカメは外来種のミシシッピアカミミガメだ。2022年、アカミミガメは、「条件付特定外来生物」に指定された。2023年6月1日から、野外への放出、輸入、販売、購入、頒布等を許可なしに行うことが禁止された。これだけ外来種が繁殖した現状を日本固有のカメが生息する環境に戻すには大変な労力と時間を必要とする。
On May 24, 2025, I took a walk in Mobara Park. The pond that had been drained before was filled with water. It seems that the renovation work has been completed.
I was surprised to see many turtles sunning themselves, even though there were no waterfowl to be seen. This turtle is a red-eared slider, an invasive species. In 2022, the red-eared slider was designated a “conditionally specified invasive species.” From June 1, 2023, it is prohibited to release it into the wild, import it, sell it, purchase it, distribute it, etc. without permission. It will take a lot of effort and time to restore the current situation where invasive species have proliferated so much to an environment where Japan’s native turtles can live.
