柏の葉第2水辺公園の池の杭にセグロセキレイがいた。日本では水辺で普通に見られる小鳥だ。でもほぼ日本だけに生息する固有種だそうだ。ハクセキレイとの関係は興味深い。ハクセキレイは、かつては日本の北部でのみ繁殖していたが、20世紀後半から繁殖地を関東・中部などへ拡げた。セグロセキレイは主に水辺に住みハクセキレイと生活圏が競合する場合には追い掛け回して縄張りを争う。セグロセキレイの方が強い傾向がある。それにもかかわらず、セグロセキレイの分布域はハクセキレイに押されるように縮小していると記録されている。ハクセキレイは都市部などの乾燥した環境にも適応して分布域を広げている。また、ハクセキレイは人間に対する警戒心が低く、歩道や住宅の庭などでもよく見かけるようになった。
There was a Japanese wagtail on the stake in Kashiwanoha Second-Waterside Park. In Japan, it is a bird commonly seen at the waterside. The white wagtail has adapted to dry environments such as urban areas and has expanded its distribution area. In addition, white wagtails are less cautious of humans, so they are often seen on sidewalks and in the gardens of houses.
