いろんなことを知ることは楽しい。子供の頃は昆虫少年だった。まもなくラジオ少年になった。学校の図書室で驚異の原子力という本を読んで原子の世界に興味を持った。大学の志望学科は電子工学だった。このように、私は理系の人間だったが、大学で1970年代の学生運動に接して社会にも目を向けるようになった。米ソの水爆実験競争という世界情勢に対して提示された核兵器廃絶・科学技術の平和利用を訴えたラッセル＝アインシュタイン宣言には感銘を受けた。この核廃絶を訴えた宣言は、現在続く戦争状態の中、特に広島に原爆が投下された日に思いをリフレッシュすることには大きな意義がある。
It’s fun to learn about all kinds of things. As a child, I was an insect lover. Soon after, I became a radio lover. I read a book called “The Amazing Atomic Energy” in the school library and became interested in the world of atoms. I wanted to study electronics at university. Thus, I was a science student, but I became interested in society after being exposed to the student movement of the 1970s at university. I was impressed by the Russell-Einstein Manifesto, which called for the abolition of nuclear weapons and the peaceful use of science and technology, presented in response to the world situation of the hydrogen bomb testing race between the United States and the Soviet Union. This declaration calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons is very meaningful in the current state of war, especially in refreshing our minds on the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.
