イサベラ島内陸部散策, Landing and observation of the Isabela Island

On September 13, 2015 in the afternoon: snorkeling and observation of a sandy beach.

岩場では赤っぽいカニと黒っぽいウミイグアナを良く見かけた。ノース・セイモア島ではガラパゴスリクイグアナを見たが大きい動物だと思ったので、ウミイグアナも同じくらい大きいものと想像していた。しかし意外と小さくって驚いた。カニの甲羅の長さは3 cm程度、それと比較して分かるように、ウミイグアナの尻尾は長いが体は比較的小さい。
I saw reddish crab and Marine iguana well in rocky places. I saw the Galapagos land iguana in the North Seymour Island and thought it was a big animal and then I was thinking that the Marine iguana might be in the same size. However, I was surprised that the Marine iguana was unexpectedly small. The shell size of the crab is about 3cm, and from the comparison of it, body size of the Marine iguana is not big, the tail length is long though.

ウミイグアナはガラパゴス諸島の固有種なので、画面いっぱいの迫力画像を見ることが多い。でも多くは想像以上に小さい。尻尾は長いが体長は20 cm未満の個体が多い。
The Marine iguana is an endemic species of Galapagos Islands, and then I often saw its splendid image with full screen. But most of them are smaller than expected. The tail is long, but the body size for many individuals is less than 20cm.

岩場にウミイグアナが沢山集まって日向ぼっこをしている光景を良く見かけた。左の写真の中央部に白い斑点が写っているが、これはイグアナが余計な塩分を鼻腔から吹き飛ばしたものだ。
I often saw that a lot of Marine iguanas gathered in rocky shore and basked in the sun. White spots are visible in the central part of the right photo. This is the salt that the iguana blew off extra salt from the nasal cavity.

ウミイグアナ, Amblyrhynchus cristatus

帰る時間になったので船着場にもどった。桟橋の横の岩にウミイグアナがいた。その体長は50cm程度で、この日に見たウミイグアナのなかで一番大きかった。
We came back to the dock because it was time to return. There was Marine iguanas on a rock beside the dock. The body size was about 50cm and was the biggest among the Marine iguanas which I saw on this day.
