イサベラ島には大規模なゾウガメ育成施設が設置されている。ゾウガメは生息地ごとに分けられて飼育されている。
Large-scale Galapagos tortoise upbringing facilities are installed in the Isabela Island. The tortoise is bred separately depending on every habitat.

イサベラ島には大規模なゾウガメ育成施設が設置されている。ゾウガメは生息地ごとに分けられて飼育されている。ゾウガメ育成施設の水場に沢山のフィンチが集まっていた。その近くでマネシツグミも見かけた。
Large-scale Galapagos tortoise upbringing facilities are installed in the Isabela Island. The tortoise is bred separately depending on every habitat. A lot of finches gathered at the water place of the Galapagos tortoise upbringing facilities. I saw a mockingbird in the neighboring place.

マネシツグミがゾウガメ育成施設の地面を走り回っていた。南米でみるマネシツグミと体形や羽の模様が似ている。しかし、やや小さく、頭部の模様は異なる。独自に進化したガラパゴスの固有種だ。
A mockingbird was running around on the ground of Galapagos tortoise upbringing facilities. The shape and plumage of the feather resembles those of mockingbird seen in South America. However, it is slightly small and the plumage of the head is different. It is endemic to the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.

1. 和名: ガラパゴスマネシツグミ, English: Galapagos mockingbird
   Wikipedia: ガラパゴス諸島には他に3種のマネシツグミが生息するが、ガラパゴスマネシツグミは、1835年のダーウィンの諸島への訪問で発見された最初のマネシツグミである。マネシツグミがダーウィンの進化論において他のどんな動物よりも大きな影響をもつことになったのは、そこにたどり着き、島から島を調査した時にダーウィンが明らかな差異に気づいた最初の種であったからである。これはより多くの種に展開される基礎となった。
2. 和名: フッドマネシツグミ, English: Hood mockingbird or Espanola mockingbird
   フッドマネシツグミは、チャールズ・ダーウィンがビーグル号の航海において観察および採集しなかったガラパゴスマネシツグミ類の唯一の種である[2]。 It is the only species of Galapagos mockingbird that Charles Darwin did not see or collect on the voyage of the Beagle.
3. 和名: フロレアナマネシツグミ, English: Floreana mockingbird or Charles mockingbird
   Wikipedia: The Floreana mockingbird is also known as Darwin's mockingbird, as it was the arguable inspiration for Charles Darwin's work on the origins of species; he noticed distinct differences between them and previous species he had encountered and consequently established the existence of other variants on neighbouring islands.
4. 和名: サンクリストバルマネシツグミ, English: San Cristobal mockingbird or Chatham mockingbird
   It is endemic to San Cristobal Island in the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. エクアドルのガラパゴス諸島のうちサン・クリストバル島（英名: チャタム島）の固有種である。

 

進化論の源泉は何？ What is the source of the theory of evolution?

• ガラパゴス諸島には島に固有の4種のマネシツグミが生息する。ダーウィンが諸島探索に訪れて、1835年に最初に発見したマネシツグミがガラパゴスマネシツグミだった。その後、フロレアナ島でもマネシツグミ（Floreana mockingbird or Darwin's mockingbird）を見たが明らかな差異に気付いた。このことから、ダーウィンは進化論の着想を得たとされる。ダーウィンが採取したマネシツグミは4種の内3種である。諸島に生息するフィンチも進化論を展開する上で重要だったと言われる。今回フィンチの写真を撮って比較してみた感想を言えば、フィンチは似た体形をしている種が多く（現在13種に分類されている）、島ごとに固有の種を区別するのは難しい。 ダーウィンが進化論という新しい学説を公にするまでには、ガラパゴスマネシツグミによる着想、その着想をフィンチや諸島に住む動物に適用してみること、さらに、既存の生物分類にも適用してみるなど試行錯誤も含めた考察があったのではないだろうか。
• Four species of mockingbirds endemic to Galapagos Islands inhabit. Darwin reached the Galapagos Islands on 15 September 1835 and firstly found the Galapagos mockingbird. He saw the mockingbird (Floreana mockingbird) also at Floreana Island and noticed the difference from the Galapagos mockingbird. It is said that this leaded Darwin to the idea of the theory of evolution. The mockingbird that Darwin gathered was three out of four species. It is said that finches inhabiting the archipelago were also important to develop the theory. To tell my impression of the comparison among finches after taking photos of them, the finches resembles each other (classified in 13 species) and difficult to classify species native to each island. There might be many considerations with trial and error including an idea inspired by the Galapagos mockingbird, application of the idea to the finches and other animals inhabiting the archipelago, and further application to the existing creature classification before Darwin published a new theory called later the theory of evolution.
