アメリカグンカンドリ, Magnificent frigatebird

• 2015年9月12日午前、ノース・セイモア島上陸観察ツアー
• On September 12, 2015 in the morning: Tour of landing and observation of the North Seymour Island.

Santa Cruz 島のDockで船Altamar号に乗るまでの待ち時間にいろんな海鳥を見た。何羽かのグンカンドリが飛んでいた。喉が赤くないのでこれはメスだろう（Endemic subspecies）。
I saw various seabirds in the dock of the Santa Cruz Island in waiting time before getting on the ship Altamar. Some frigatebirds were flying. This bird may be female because the throat is no red.

Wikipedia: The magnificent frigatebird is a seabird of the frigatebird family Fregatidae. With a length of 89?114 centimetres it is the largest species of frigatebird. It occurs over tropical and subtropical waters off America, between northern Mexico and Ecuador on the Pacific coast and between Florida and southern Brazil along the Atlantic coast. There are also populations on the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific and the Cape Verde islands in the Atlantic.

沢山のグンカンドリが飛んでいた（Endemic subspecies）。翼が大変長いので羽ばたかないで空中を滑空する。餌を探しているようには見えなかった。飛ぶのを楽しんでいるかのようだった。この鳥の喉元は赤いのでオスだろう。
Many Magnificent frigatebirds were flying. The wing is very long and the bird glides in the air without flapping. It did not seem to be looking for bait and to be enjoying to fly. This bird will be a male because the throat is red.

North Seymour島はグンカンドリの営巣地になっている。空には沢山のグンカンドリが飛んでいた。グンカンドリは飛ぶ時、通常尾羽を畳んでいるが、必要に応じて燕尾のように広げる。喉もとの赤いオスのグンカンドリだ。
The North Seymour Island has been the nesting place of the Magnificent frigatebird. Many frigate birds were flying in the sky. The frigatebird usually folds tail feathers but opens like a swallowtail as needed when it flies. This bird is a male frigatebird with red throat.

Magnificent frigatebirdかGreat frigatebird（Endemic subspecies）か区別できないが、島のいたる所に営巣していた。9月なのでもう求愛行動は見られないと思っていたが、赤い喉元を大きく膨らましているオスを沢山見ることが出来た。つがいは出来ているようで、オスとメスが寄り添っている姿が多かった。真っ白い雛の姿もあった。
The Magnificent frigatebird nested everywhere of the island. We could see many male frigatebirds which blew up the red throat, though I had thought the courtship behavior was not seen anymore because it was September. They seemed to have the pairs and there were many scenes that a male and a female snuggled up. There were also pure white young birds.

赤い喉元を大きく膨らませて翼を広げるオスのしぐさは、空を飛ぶメスへの求愛行動かと思っていたが、メスはすぐ横に寄り添っていた。
I had thought that the action of the male to blow up the red throat and to widen the wing was the courtship behavior to the female flying in the sky, but the female snuggled up aside closely.

オスは胸元を大きく膨らましている。メスはぴったりオスに寄り添っている。白い羽毛の雛もいる。
The male was blowing up the red throat. The female snuggled up aside closely. There was the fledgling of a white feather.

翼が黒く、頭部が茶色の鳥は、若いグンカンドリだろう。

頭部が白く、翼がこげ茶色の大きい海鳥だ。くちばしはグンカンドリと似ている。この鳥もグンカンドリの幼鳥のようだ。比較的小さい島に沢山のグンカンドリが集まり繁殖するコロニーを形成している。単純に考えて、こんなに多くの大型の鳥が生存するためには大量の餌（魚）が必要だ。でも、グンカンドリは沢山飛んでいたが、餌をとる動作を見ることはできなかった。どのようにして餌をとっているんだろう、不思議だ。

This is a seabird with white head and dark brown wings. The bill resembles that of the frigatebird. This bird will be also the young frigatebird. Many Magnificent frigatebirds gathers and forms the colony in this relatively small island. I simply think that a large quantity of bait (fish) is necessary so that so many large birds live. I saw many flying frigatebirds but could not see the action of having bait. I wonder how the bird has bait.
