サンタ・クルス島のプエルト・アヨラ街内で見たサボテンフィンチ, Common cactus finch at Puerto Ayora in Santa Cruz Island <Finch08>

2015年9月12日、午前中はNorth Seymour島に上陸して観察をした。午後のシュノーケリングなどの後、Santa Cruz 島Puerto AyoraにあるHotel Espanaに戻った。今晩はレストランに行かず適当なものを買って食べようと外に買物に出た。 偶然野鳥に合う可能性もあるのでカメラを持参した。道路沿いにある家に植えてある大きなサボテンに花が咲いていた。 その花に偶然フィンチが来た。サボテンフィンチであることを期待して写真を撮った。頭部を拡大して見るとくちばしが明らかに長い（Finch08）。

On September 12, 2015, we landed the North Seymour Island in the morning and observed it. After the snorkeling in the afternoon, we came back to the Hotel Espana at Puerto Ayora in Santa Cruz Island. We went out to buy something to eat instead of eating in restaurant. I carried my camera ?because I might encounter a wild bird on the way. A flower bloomed to the big cactus planted in the house at the roadside. A finch came accidentally to the flower. I took photos of the finch expecting it to be a cactus finch. Expanding the head position of the photo I noticed that the bill of the finch is longer than other finches.

この小鳥の羽毛はダーウィン・フィンチのメスと似ている。 頭部を正面から見ても分からないが横から見るとくちばしが細長いことが分かる。

The plumage of this bird resembles that of a female of Darwin finch. I see from the profile of the bird that the bill is slim, though I can not notice it from the front view of the head.

あたりを見回してからフィンチはサボテンの花に頭部を突っ込んだ。 花の奥行きはかなりあるようでフィンチの首から上部がすっぽり隠れている。この状態を見ると、 くちばしの長いフィンチがより効率よくサボテンの花から餌をとれることが分かる。

The finch looked around, and then put the head in the flower of the cactus. There seems to be considerably the depth of the flower, and the upper part of the neck of the finch completely hides. I know that the finch having a long bill can take bait out of the cactus more efficiently when I look at this state.

フィンチはサボテンの花から頭部を抜き、顔をあげてあたりを見回している。サボテンの花に頭部を突っ込むと周囲が全く 見えなくなるので警戒するのだろう。偶然とはいえ、貴重な場面に遭遇した。

The finch pulled the head out of the cactus and looked round by putting up the face. When the finch puts the head in the flower of the cactus it cannot look round and then it will be cautious. Despite chance, I met with the precious scene.
