サンタ・クルス島ロス・ヘメロス周辺の林で見たダーウィンフィンチ, Darwin's finches of Los Gemelos in Santa Cruz Island <Finch01>
大地の陥没地 "ロス・ヘメロス"は霧に包まれていた。この辺にはキツツキフィンチが住むと聞いて見たいと思ったが、 視界が悪く飛び去る姿だけ確認できた、残念。約30分後、近くの小枝にフィンチが止っているのを見かけて写真を撮った。 13種に分類されているフィンチのどれに相当するか分からないのでFinch01としておこう。
Cave-in ground “Los Gemelos” was shrouded in a heavy mist. I wanted to see the woodpecker finch when I heard it lived around here. But it was a regret that I could only see it flying away because of the heavy mist. After about 30 minutes I took photos of a finch perching on a twig nearby. Let’s put it as Finch01 because I cannot classify Darwin’s finches of 13 species.

Finch01は割合大きく見えた。そのフィンチは黄色い花を食べていた。左足の指に腫瘍があるようで不自由らしい。
Finch01 looked comparatively big. The finch ate a yellow flower. The left toes seem to have a tumor and seem to be ill.

ガイドが溶岩トンネル”Tuneles de Lava”に入るための予備知識を説明するのを聞いているうちに、先ほどのフィンチは別の枝に移った。 この後で見る草原に集団で集まったフィンチと似ているが腹部の模様は違うように見える。 Vegetarian finchなのでは？いずれにしても、ガラパゴスの固有種だ。
When we were listening to the guide to enter the lava tunnel “Tuneles de Lava”, the finch moved to a different branch. Is this finch Vegetarian finch? In any case, it is an endemic species of Galapagos.

サンタ・クルス島Highland地区ゾウガメ育成地売店の床で見たダーウィンフィンチ, Darwin's finches of Highland in Santa Cruz Island <Finch02>
ゾウガメ育成地の売店床に入り込んで餌を探している小さいフィンチを見かけた（Finch02）。 先ほど見たFinchi01とは、大きさとくちばしの形が異なるので別種だろう。Small ground finchなのでは？いずれにしても、ガラパゴスの固有種だ。
I saw a small finch that got into the stand floor of the Galapagos tortoise upbringing place, and was looking for bait (Finch02). This finch may be another species from the former Finch01 because the body size and the form if the bill are different. Is this finch Small ground finch? In any case, it is an endemic species of Galapagos.

2015年9月11日、サンタ・クルス（Santa Cruz）島中央部（Highland地区）にあるゾウガメ育成地を見学した。 林に囲まれた広い自然の草原だ。乾季になるとゾウガメはこの地区に集まるという。ゾウガメが新しい草を食べられるように係員が草刈をしていた。草刈をした後には沢山のフィンチが餌を求めて集まっていた。
On September 11, 2015, we saw Highland district of Santa Cruz Island to grow Galapagos tortoises. The place is a wide natural grassy plain among forests, and it is said that the Galapagos tortoises gather here in this place when it is the dry season. A worker was mowing grasses so the Galapagos toutoise could eat new grasses. After the grasses were cut manu finches gathered for bait.

くちばしは比較的大きいがLarge ground finch程ではない。Medium ground finchなのでは？

サンタ・クルス島Highland地区ゾウガメ育成地を囲む林で見たダーウィンフィンチ, Darwin's finches of Highland in Santa Cruz Island <Finch04>
小枝にフィンチが止っていた。どれも似ていて区別がつかなかった（Finch04）。 しかし、草原で草の実を食べていたフィンチの顔と比べるとくちばしが明らかに細い。
A finch was perching on a twig, but any finches were similar and could not be distinguished (Finch04). However, the bill is clearly thinner than that of the finch that was eating seed of the grass in the grassy plain.

頭部、特にくちばしの形が似ているので、左の写真はメス、右の写真はオスだろう。オスの翼には模様が見える。 いずれにしても、ガラパゴスの固有種だ。
The left photo is female and the right will be the male because the form, particularly the bill is similar. The male wing has some pattern. In any case, it is an endemic species of Galapagos.

草の実を食べている小さいフィンチがいた（Finch05）。いずれにしても、ガラパゴスの固有種だ。
There was a small finch eating seeds of the grass (Finch05). In any case, it is an endemic species of Galapagos.

サンタ・クルス島の桟橋で見たダーウィンフィンチ, Darwin's finches at the north dock in Santa Cruz Island <Finch06, Finch07 >
2015年9月12日、午前中はNorth Seymour島に上陸して観察をした。午後にはSanta Cruz島に戻り白い砂浜のBachas beachで シュノーケリングの計画だった。私達はシュノーケリングの経験がないので海には入らず、ヨットで休んでいた。約2時間後、シュノーケリングも終わりSanta Cruz 島のDockに戻った。Dockの建物の横の木の小枝にフィンチがいた。
On September 12, 2015, in the morning, we landed the North Seymour Island and observed it. There was a plan of snorkeling in the white sandy Bachas beach in the afternoon after coming back to the Santa Cruz Island. We did not have experience of the snorkeling and then we were taking a rest in the yacht. About two hours later, the snorkeling was over and we came back to the dock of the Santa Cruz Island. There was a finch on the twig of a tree beside the building of the dock.

There was two finches on the fence beside the building of the dock. This finch looks like the same species as the finch which perched on the twig mentioned above (Finch06).

There was two finches on the fence beside the building of the dock. They took an action such as the fight for standing position. This finch looks have a big bill and looks different from that mentioned above (Finch07).

2015年9月12日、午前中はNorth Seymour島に上陸して観察をした。午後のシュノーケリングなどの後、Santa Cruz 島Puerto AyoraにあるHotel Espanaに戻った。今晩はレストランに行かず適当なものを買って食べようと外に買物に出た。 偶然野鳥に合う可能性もあるのでカメラを持参した。道路沿いにある家に植えてある大きなサボテンに花が咲いていた。 その花に偶然フィンチが来た。サボテンフィンチであることを期待して写真を撮った。頭部を拡大して見るとくちばしが明らかに長い（Finch08）。
On September 12, 2015, we landed the North Seymour Island in the morning and observed it. After the snorkeling in the afternoon, we came back to the Hotel Espana at Puerto Ayora in Santa Cruz Island. We went out to buy something to eat instead of eating in restaurant. I carried my camera ?because I might encounter a wild bird on the way. A flower bloomed to the big cactus planted in the house at the roadside. A finch came accidentally to the flower. I took photos of the finch expecting it to be a cactus finch. Expanding the head position of the photo I noticed that the bill of the finch is longer than other finches.

この小鳥の羽毛はダーウィン・フィンチのメスと似ている。 頭部を正面から見ても分からないが横から見るとくちばしが細長いことが分かる。
The plumage of this bird resembles that of a female of Darwin finch. I see from the profile of the bird that the bill is slim, though I can not notice it from the front view of the head.

あたりを見回してからフィンチはサボテンの花に頭部を突っ込んだ。 花の奥行きはかなりあるようでフィンチの首から上部がすっぽり隠れている。この状態を見ると、 くちばしの長いフィンチがより効率よくサボテンの花から餌をとれることが分かる。
The finch looked around, and then put the head in the flower of the cactus. There seems to be considerably the depth of the flower, and the upper part of the neck of the finch completely hides. I know that the finch having a long bill can take bait out of the cactus more efficiently when I look at this state.

フィンチはサボテンの花から頭部を抜き、顔をあげてあたりを見回している。サボテンの花に頭部を突っ込むと周囲が全く 見えなくなるので警戒するのだろう。偶然とはいえ、貴重な場面に遭遇した。
The finch pulled the head out of the cactus and looked round by putting up the face. When the finch puts the head in the flower of the cactus it cannot look round and then it will be cautious. Despite chance, I met with the precious scene.
