サンタ・フェ島近海のガラパゴスウミツバメ (Wedge-rumped storm petrel over the sea near Santa Fe Island)

Santa Fe島は小さいので特別の上陸地点は無い。小さい砂浜があるのでそこにタグボートで近づき海水に入って上陸した。
There is no special landing place of the Santa Fe Island because it is small. We approached a small sandy beach on the tugboat and stepped down in the sea and landed.

船でSanta Cruz島に戻る途中、海の波面すれすれに飛ぶウミツバメを良く見た。
I saw storm petrel often on the returning voyage to the Santa Cruz Island which was flying within a hairbreadth of the sea surface.

ウミツバメは姿が小さく（15 cm）、しかもすばやく飛ぶのでカメラの自動焦点を追随させることがとても難しい。何10枚もの写真の中でかろうじて数枚うまく撮れていた。
Automatic focusing of the camera hardly follows the storm petrel because it is small (15cm) and flies quickly. Several pieces were barely good out of tens of photos.

ウミツバメはスペイン語ではGolondrina de mar (ウミツバメ)だが、英語ではStorm petrelだ。

The name of this bird is Golondrina de mar (meaning of sea swallow) in Spanish but is Storm petrel in English.
