アカハラの越冬, Wintering of Brown-headed thrush

アカハラ、ヒヨドリ、ムクドリが集う栴檀の木, Chinaberry trees where Brown-headed thrushes, Brown-eared bulbuls and White-cheeked starlings gather

近くの空き地に生えている栴檀の木にたくさんの実が付いている。ムクドリやヒヨドリがやってきて実をついばんでいるのを時々見かける。この日(Dec 31, 2024)、ムクドリより少し大きい鳥がいた。よく見るとツグミ科のアカハラだ。この辺は雪が降らないので越冬しているのかもしれない。

There are a lot of berries on the chinaberry tree growing in a nearby vacant lot. I sometimes see white-cheeked starlings and brown-eared bulbuls coming and pecking at the berries. On this day (Dec 31, 2024), I saw a bird bigger than the starling. Looking closely, I noticed that it was a Brown-headed thrush, a member of the thrush family. It doesn’t snow around here, so it might be winter here.
