• On September 13, 2015 in the morning: landing and observation of the Isabela Island.

この日はIsabela島内陸部散策ツアーの予定だ。ホテルの朝食は7時からだが、7時10分に迎えに来るとのことなので10分位早めに朝食をとれるよう依頼した。Puerto Ayoraの桟橋までは歩いて5分程度なので迎えに来た人と歩いて行った。Santa Cruz島のPuerto Ayoraの桟橋では簡単な手荷物検査があった。私たちは桟橋からタグボートに乗り高速ボートに乗り移った。
Isabela Island inland walk tour was the plan of this day. The breakfast was served from 7 o’clock, but we requested that we could have breakfast about 10 minutes earlier because the tour company would come to pick us up at 7:10. We walked to the dock of Puerto Ayora with the person who came to pick us up because it was about 5 minutes on foot. We had a simple baggage check at the dock of Puerto Ayora of the Santa Cruz Island. We transferred to a speedboat from a tugboat started at the dock.

Santa Cruz島のPuerto Ayoraから高速ボートに乗ってIsabela島内陸部散策ツアーに出発した。日帰りツアーなので往復に時間を費やすことができないため、ツアー参加者は高速ボートに乗り約2時間で島に着く。海は穏やかだったが、高速ボートは後部に3連のYAMAYAエンジンを搭載し先端が海面から浮くほど高速で走る。そのため、ちょっとした波でも衝撃が大きく、まるでトラックの荷台に乗っているような振動が伝わる。腰の悪い人は乗れないのではないか。
We started for Isabela Island inland walk tour on a speed boat from Puerto Ayora of the Santa Cruz Island. We cannot spend time on coming and going due to a one-day tour, and then the tour participant arrives at the Island on a speedboat in about two hours. The sea was calm, but the speedboat with three YAMAHA engines on the rear runs at such high speed that the tip floated on air from the sea surface. Therefore, a shock is big even in the pretty good wave, and we feel vibration as if we are on the carrier of the truck. The person who has waist problem may not be able to get on.

Santa Cruz島のPuerto Ayora から高速ボートで約2時間後、Isabela島の桟橋に着いた。私たちは入島料金$5×2 = $10払って上陸した。
We arrived at the dock of the Isabela Island from Puerto Ayora of the Santa Cruz Island by speedboat in about two hours. We landed after paying entrance fee ($5x2=$10) of the Island.

Isabela島の港にはトイレも用意してあり安心だ。上陸観察クルーズ（混載バス・ガイド・昼食付）は混載バスツアーなので他の乗客を待って約1時間40分後に小型バスに乗り込んだ。ツアー参加者は必ずガイドと共に行動しなければならない。

The restroom is also prepared at the port of the Isabela Island and is reliable. We waited for other passengers and got in a minicoach about one hour 40 minutes later because the landing observation cruise was consolidation bus tour with guide and lunch. The tour participant must follow the guide.

ベニイロフラミンゴ, American flamingo

混載バスは最初、フラミンゴの池に停車した。この池は汽水湖であり、ブラインシュリンプが大量に発生するとの説明だ。この餌が豊富なためフラミンゴがこの池に飛来する。フラミンゴの他にカモ、カモメ、バンも見た。
The consolidation bus stopped first at the pond of flamingo. We heard that this pond is a brackish water lake and large amount of brine shrimp lives. Flamingos come flying in this pond to have the bait. I saw duck, gull and gallinule other than the flamingo.

イワカモメ, Lava gull

フラミンゴの他に中型の黒っぽい水鳥がいた。遠いので肉眼では分からなかったが、写真を見るとガラパゴスの固有種Lava gullであることが分かった（Endemic species）。
There was a medium-sized blackish waterfowl other than the flamingo. Because it was far I did not see the species by naked eye, but knew by photos that it was Lava gull being endemic to Galapagos.

Common gallinule, Gallinula galeata

もっと近くにバンがいた。この写真をみると日本に生息するバンと良く似ている。しかし、新大陸に住むバン（Common gallinule）は、2011年に旧大陸に住むバン（Common moorhen）と別種とされた。
There was a gallinule nearer. The bird resembles closely Common moorhen of Japan from this photo. However, this bird (Common gallinule) which lives in the New World was considered to be different species in 2011 from the bird (Common moorhen) living in the Old World.

ホオジロオナガガモ, White-cheeked pintail

カモもいた。Santa Cruz島で見たカモと同じホオジロオナガガモだろう。ホオジロオナガガモは3亜種に分類され、ガラパゴスに住む亜種のカモはガラパゴスホオジロオナガガモ（英: Galapagos White-cheeked Pintail）、A. bahamensis galapagensis (Ridgway, 1890)とされている。
There were ducks, too. They will be White-cheeked pintail same as the duck which I saw in Santa Cruz Island. The White-cheeked pintails are classified in 3 subspecies, and that living in Galapagos is considered to be Galapagos White-cheeked Pintail.

ダーウィンフィンチ, Darwin's fincheｓ

ゾウガメ育成施設の水場に沢山のフィンチが集まっていた。同じ種のオスとメスのように見えるが、13種のどれか分からない。
A lot of finches gathered at the water place of the Galapagos tortoise upbringing facilities. They seem to be male and female of a species, but I cannot identify the species out of 13.

ガラパゴスマネシツグミ, Galapagos mockingbird

マネシツグミがゾウガメ育成施設の地面を走り回っていた。南米でみるマネシツグミと体形や羽の模様が似ている。しかし、やや小さく、頭部の模様は異なる。独自に進化したガラパゴスの固有種だ。
A mockingbird was running around on the ground of Galapagos tortoise upbringing facilities. The shape and plumage of the feather resembles those of mockingbird seen in South America. However, it is slightly small and the plumage of the head is different. It is endemic to the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.

2015年9月13日、午後: シュノーケリングや浜辺散策, Ｓnorkeling and observation of a sandy beach in the Isabela Island

午後は、砂浜海岸でシュノーケリングや海水浴の予定だった。私達はシュノーケリングの経験がないので海には入らないと言ったら、それなら別の海岸に連れて行ってやる、色々な動物もいる、とのこと。写真のように白い砂浜が続き見晴らし台や公共のシャワー・トイレもある場所だった。
On September 13, 2015, in the afternoon, there was a plan of snorkeling at a sandy beach in the Isabela Island. We told that we did not have experience of the snorkeling and then they told us to take us to different sandy beach where various animals lived. The place was a sandy beach as seen in the photo, and there were a gazebo and the public shower and restroom.

ミユビシギ, Sanderling

砂浜海岸の波打ち際には何種類かの海鳥がいた。波が引くのを待って餌をさがすこの鳥はミユビシギのようだ。北アメリカの北極圏で繁殖し長距離の渡りをするとのこと。やや派手な模様はBreeding plumageだろう。
There were several kinds of seabirds in the coast of the sandy beach. A bird was searching bait waiting the wave-off and was like Sanderling. It is said that this bird breeds in the North American Arctic Area and does long distance migration. The slightly showy color will be the breeding plumage.

ウミイグアナ, Marine iguana

岩場では赤っぽいカニとウミイグアナを良く見かけた。 カニの甲羅の長さは3 cm程度、それと比較して分かるようにウミイグアナは比較的小さい。ウミイグアナが沢山集まって日向ぼっこをしていた。
I saw reddish crab and Marine iguana well in rocky places. The shell size of the crab is about 3cm, and from the comparison of it, the Marine iguana is not big. A lot of Marine iguanas gathered and basked in the sun.

チュウシャクシギ, Whimbrel

打ち寄せる波と追いかけごっこをするようにして砂浜で餌を探している海鳥がいた。特徴のあるくちばしの形と羽毛の模様からチュウシャクシギであることが分かる。世界中に分布する渡り鳥だ。翼を広げる動作はこの時1回だけ見た。なんの動作か分からない。
There was a seabird which was looking for bait in a sandy beach as if playing follow-up the coming surf. I see that it is Whimbrel from the shape of the characteristic bill and the plumage of the feather. It is a migratory bird distributed over the world. I saw the action to widen the wing only once. I do not know what kind of action it is.

ミズカキチドリ, Semipalmated plover

岩場の砂浜にジッと立っている中型の別の海鳥がいる。背中はこげ茶色であり、腹部は白い。この鳥はミズカキチドリのようだ。
There was another medium-sized seabird standing still in the sandy beach of the rocky place. The back is dark brown and the belly is white. This bird will be Semipalmated plover.

カッショクペリカン, Brown pelican

ハイイロペリカンは魚をダイビング・キャッチする。大きな下あごの袋を持つペリカンの姿からは想像し難いが、ガラパゴスでは普通に見られる。まるでジュラ紀の翼手竜のような姿に見える。
Brown pelican dives into the sea and catches fish. It is hard to imagine that from the shape of the pelican having big bag of the lower jaw, but is seen commonly in Galapagos. It looks like an animal as if it were Jurassic pterosaur.

メリケンキアシシギ, Wandering tattler

波打ち際の岩場を歩いている中型の海鳥がいた。逆光状態なので色は不鮮明だが、背中は灰色っぽく、腹部は白い。メリケンキアシシギと体形が似ているが、色は異なるように見える。オス、メスの違いだろうか？
There was a medium-sized seabird waking the rocky shore. The color of the bird is indistinct due to backlight condition, but the back seems grayish and the belly is white. The body resembles Wandering tattler, but the colors seem to be different. Is it depend on male and female?

ガラパゴスササゴイ, Lava heron

ササゴイの体形をした黒っぽい海鳥が岩の上から打ち寄せる波を見つめていた。ほとんど動かなかった。ガラパゴスの固有種、ガラパゴスササゴイのようだ。近づいても人間を気にしない。
The blackish seabird with the body shape of night heron stared at the surf from a rock. It hardly moved. It will be Lava heron which is endemic to Galapagos Islands. The bird does not mind a human being even if it approaches.

イサベラ島内陸部散策, Landing and observation of the Isabela Island

Isabela島の桟橋から高速ボートで約2時間後、Santa Cruz島のPuerto Ayoraに着いた。Santa Cruz島のPuerto Ayoraからホテルまでは歩いて10分以内なので、ここで自由解散した。Puerto Ayoraは各種クルーズの要なので豪華客船やヨットなど沢山の船の姿がある。もう夕方なので白い船体も夕日でピンク色に見えた。船の手前を白っぽい鳥の大群が海面すれすれに飛んで行った。

We arrived at Puerto Ayora of the Santa Cruz Island from the dock of the Isabela Island by the speedboat in about two hours.

We were dissolved freely at Puerto Ayora of Santa Cruz Island because it took less than 10 minutes from here to the hotel. There are many ships here including a luxurious passenger liner and the yacht because the Puerto Ayora is the pivot of various crises. The white hull was seen pink in the sunset of evening. A large flock of whitish birds flew just before the ships within a hairbreadth of the sea surface.

Isabela島ツアーで一緒になった日本の若者から紹介されて、屋台レストランの並ぶ通りに行った。海産物の料理は日本人の好みに合っていて美味しかった。その割に値段も手ごろだった（2人で$21）。
The Japanese youth who we were together with in the Isabela Island tour introdcued us a street where many stand restaurants lined up, and then we went there. The cooking of marine products matched Japanese taste and was delicious. The price was just right for the cooking quality ($21 for two persons).
